ESC Aerospace has developed a durable drive unit for satellites
9/24/2025
ESC Aerospace has unveiled its new MDE (Multipurpose Drive Electronics) electronic drive unit, designed to control up to four stepper motors on board satellites and resistant to cosmic radiation.

MDE is designed as compact and versatile control electronics capable of operating various satellite movement mechanisms, such as drives for opening and rotating solar panels (SADM), antenna pointing, positioning scientific instruments, or manipulating robotic arms. The system ensures precise motion control and high reliability, enabling long-term operation in the demanding space environment.

ESC Aerospace drew on its extensive experience with highly reliable electronics for space and defense applications during development. The company specializes in system integration, the development of flight-certified equipment, and cyber security for corporate and mission-critical IT systems. In addition to European ESA projects, it also participates in NASA programs and commercial space missions.

The new MDE unit builds on the company's previous development activities in the field of drive control and real-time data processing. Thanks to its modular architecture, it can be easily integrated into various types of satellites. ESC Aerospace thus confirms its position as one of the most important Czech suppliers of electronic systems for space missions, combining innovation, resilience, and precision engineering in accordance with European standards.
